Do You Need to be in Wild Nature to be Attuned to your Elven Soul and Spirit?

Being in wild Nature can surely inspire one and one’s elfin spirit. Elfin and Faerie, while they are often projected and portrayed as being rather wild and there is some truth to that, are primarily a cultural phenomenon. While Nature surely evokes our sense of Elfin and Faerie and our own elfin and faerie-ness, it does so mostly because it takes us away from the mortar and concrete worlds of men that are so organically dead. Nature is alive and radiant and when we are in Nature we can absorb and be healed by its radiance. The world of Men and the Normal folk, on the other hand, being mostly lifeless, sucks energy from you. Nature has its own ambience. The world of Men and the normal folk gains ambience from the people and events that have passed or occurred there. Nature projects energy, the artificial world absorbs it. This is the same, in essence, as the fact that the various statues (over 500 of them) that we Silver Elves have in our eald can serve as teraphim, which is to say houses for various elfin spirits that abide with us (see our book Eldafaryn: True Tale fo Magic from the Lives of the Silver Elves) .

And yet, while it is wonderful to be surrounded by Nature and to live in harmony with Nature, most Elfae culture stems from our interactions in the world. It comes from books, movies, television shows and computers, mobile phones, etc. and in ancient times from stories told around the fire and from oral traditions passed on over generations. And, of course, and most importantly from encountering and interacting with each other and being our own true s'elf. Elves seek each other in the world not only because we are lonely without our kindred but because we know that Elfin resides in each of us and is born of our union. Faerie and Elfin are an artifact of culture and community and that’s just a fact.

At the same time, who of us of elfae nature and spirit doesn’t desire a closer connection to wild Nature, for we are part of Nature? The truth is we wish to live in both worlds, to integrate the two and have them blend harmoniously. Our efforts to manifest Faerie and Elfin upon the Earth through our lives is very much an effort to create a world and culture that is in harmony with Nature and yet retains everything of value in the modern world and surely as it evolves in positive ways into the future. Like mankind in that way, we elfae want it all. Unlike men who say you can’t have it all, we know we can.

And our goal of Elfin manifest is very much in keeping with the Biblical idea of the Garden of Eden and the Earthly Paradise that is promised at the End of the World (see our books Jesus Christ Elf Lord: The Faerie Foundations of Christianity, book one and also book two). A world where the lion lays down with the lamb and doesn’t have him for supper.

We continue on in our own elvish realms, in adoration of Nature and yet very happy to be at this moment in the relative safety of our eald writing this and not having to look over our shoulder to see if some hungry animal is coming along our path. Not that the world of Men is not a dangerous place. It is, as has been pointed out, an ‘asphalt jungle’. Yet, if we had to live in the world of wild Nature, we would do our best as our ancestors did and make the best of it that we can. After all, that’s what they did and they created this world in an effort of improve their lives and ours. In some ways, it is closer to Faerie and Elfin and our more paradisaical world, but still we have a long way to go before those worlds are achieved. And while we shall carry on the work as long as we can, others hopefully will carry it on along with us and others yet will do so after we have gone from this incarnation, continuing on down through the ages.

So, no you don’t have to be in wild Nature to attune to one’s elvish soulful spirit, but it surely can help.

Are Rocks Truly Gateways to the Otherworlds of the Elfin and Faerie Realms?

  

"  . . . it is important to understand that the transformation that occurs from one world to another is not usually extreme. It is not exactly like taking a jet from London to Beijing (note that the jet is a cave or tube-like structure) and stepping into a very different world. Most of what changes in such movements is our own s’elves and the way we view the world. The world looks rather the same but we and the change that has occurred within us has made it different and new. We see it in a new light, the radiant light of Elfin and Faerie. "  

 

     Images of stones and rocks as portals to other realms, to Faerie, to Elfin and related lands, or to the etheric, ethereal, esoteric and eldritch lands is a common theme. Stonehenge is surely a prime example. But this is also true of nearly all dolmens, menhirs, cairns, megaliths, large hag stones, standing stones, orthostats, and liths, cromlechs, etc. These portals also includes another group: caves, caverns and barrow downs, although these have a slightly different but still connected symbology.

     Many of the first type rock formation portals (the dolmens, menhirs, etc.) are phallic in nature indicating a connection between the Earth and the Stars, although dolmens are more feminine in form and may represent the place where the moonlight and starlight enters the Earth. Thus, dolmens are more likely to be used to represent the entry way to other realms, whereas the other more phallic rocks denote our aspiration toward the stars and thus the more subtle aethers where the Shining Ones abide.

     Barrows, caves and caverns have that same sort of energy. Although, they are usually associated with death, the passage from one life to another, or from this life to a different world. This is both because they are beneath the ground where people are often buried, but also because they are womb-like formations representing rebirth.

     Hag stones, stones that have natural formed holes in the middle through which it is said one can see Faerie or the other worldly realms, when they are large enough would also represent an entry point into eldritch regions. These are similar to dolmens, except dolmens are usually put together by human hands, while hag stones are formed by Nature which lends them additional power and potency. In that way, dolmens may represent our efforts to build a bridge to Faerie, we might say, while hag stones indicates natural passage ways into Faerie created by Nature for us.

     We might note that the mounds the ancients built for the kings, queens or other important leaders to be buried in are along the same lines as barrows and caves, and the pyramids, both Egyptian, East Asian and Meso-American are of this same order. Temples and churches, mosques and other places deemed holy by the followers of various faiths are really along the same lines. Only in those cases, one enters in to commune with the deity, who dwells there, coming for a visit as it were, and then going home again. Rather like visiting your ancient, rich and powerful grandparents.

     But the question here really, is why rocks and stones? Even churches, especially old ones are made of rock and stone. Is there something special about stones that makes them vibrant passageways to other worlds? And we Silver Elves would have to say, not really.

     It is not that stones don’t have powers and potency. In our elvish animistic point of view, much like a child’s view of life up to puberty (see The Uses of Enchantment by Bruno Betterheim), everything is alive with spirit. And the hordes of individuals who utilize various gems and minerals and frequently collect them like dragons have hoards, or book readers have libraries with shelves and boxes of books and not a place to put them all, understand the opportunity and potential power that connection with the mineral world brings us.

     But, while various stones can be both useful esoterically and physically beautiful and enchanting, there is nothing about stones that make them per se a better medium for entering the Faerie realms than some others that are available to us. It is not the stone itself that bears the power of passage, although we say again natural formations seem to offer more possibility than manmade ones. It is the form that is important. It is the suggestion of thresholds and passageways that really empowers the stones in its use as a means of stepping from one parallel realm to another. Like qigong it is not just the movements but the movements in coordination with our imaginal powers.

     Such passageways to Faerie can also be found traditionally in the Mists. Faerie lore also tells us that Twilight provides an opening for us. Halloween or Samhain as the time of year also helps make that connection, as does the fall overall or the period in and around to midnight or the witching hour. So if you really wish to enter Faerie, find a hag stone or dolmen and pass through it in a mist at twilight or around midnight on Samhain or close to it.

     However, it is important to understand that the transformation that occurs from one world to another is not usually extreme.      We know that there are many kindred who would like to leave this world entirely, right now, but that will happen in due course. We will enter the barrow and reemerge anew looking completely different. There is no hurry to get to Elfin and Faerie and to go before it is one’s time is to ignorantly tamper with one’s own fate and destiny and that almost never turns out well. It’s like wandering into a kitchen where something is cooking on the stove and simply grabbing miscellaneous spices and vegetables and randomly throwing them into the pot without actually even taking a look to see what is brewing.

     Besides, beloved, our geas is here. The mission we have accepted voluntarily, and thus our duty, stems from that decision to manifest Elfin upon the Earth and among the Stars and though it doesn’t seem like Elfin can come quick enough, we wish to do this right, don’t we? Otherwise, it will all fall apart again, as it has before, and we wouldn’t wish that would we? We want our Elfin to last longer than the pyramids, and stand before the stars for ages yet to come greeting all our kindred as they return to us upon the Earth in the paradise we have created together.

Many Elven Blessings, dear Kindred!

 

What is the Elven Spirit?

"Because of the somewhat ambiguous nature of our spirits, most people prefer to attempt to define us [elves] using physical characteristics because that is somewhat easier. . . . We see the world in ways that others cannot or simply will not dare to do; they having been programmed since early childhood to do otherwise. We see with Elf Sight and Elven Vision. We see not only what appears before us as form, but we also look to spirit and substance."  
 

The problem with defining the Elven spirit is similar to the difficulty with defining elves physically. We are an amorphous folk by our very natures and are generally quite unique as individuals, usually eccentric in our maturity and thus greatly varied as individuals and diverse among our different clans, tribes and peoples, overall. What you say of one elf may or may not apply to another and there are few things that we can say that would apply to all of us. Other than, we tend to be different. That, in many ways, is what most frightens normal folk, for we perpetually seem to be individuals that never quite fit into any of their boxes.

     Because of the somewhat ambiguous nature of our spirits, most people prefer to attempt to define us using physical characteristics because that is somewhat easier and, of course, they are affected by the general tendency toward viewing everything from a material and materialistic point of view that defines the Kali Yuga, or Dark Age, or we might call it the Age of Mistaking Form for Substance, anyway. Form appears so solid to them, but we perceive its transient nature. 

     If we were to believe the tales and legends about us, then we elves would all have pointed ears (which we would so love) and live for thousands of years (which we are also not opposed to) and most of us, but not all (for the Realms of Faerie are myriad and varied), would be amazingly beautiful, slim, gorgeous and looking rather like fashion models with pointed ears (that's fine with us). If we are to be strictly factual about this, then none of us on the Earth today would fulfill all three requirements. We've known brother and sisters who have real-to-life pointed ears. We've known brothers and sisters who are amazingly beautiful, but we've yet to meet any that live for thousands of years, although all of these are visions of our future.

     And yet, in observing the world around us, we've known many elven and elfae folk, who while they may not seem to live up to these ideas in the eyes of the Normal folk, are quite obviously elfin to us. In our point of view, they are quite beautiful, although sometimes the beauty is more of their spirit than their temporary bodily form. If you look at them, they do have pointed ears, you just have to see them in the right light when their magic is manifesting. And surely, by way of reincarnation, all of us have lived thousands upon thousands of years, even thousands and thousands of lives. Not in these same physical bodies, of course, but in our true bodies, our bodies of light that we are still in the process of constructing.

     For that is, in fact, an aspect of the elven spirit. We see the world in ways that others cannot or simply will not dare to do; they having been programmed since early childhood to do otherwise. We see with Elf Sight and Elven Vision. We see not only what appears before us as form, but we also look to spirit and substance. They say that beauty is only skin deep, but that is not quite the case. Some people's beauty comes from deep within them and is a manifestation of their spirit, their personality, their glamor, at times, and their enchantments manifesting in the world. 

     Elves, for the most part, are a very tolerant people. We may be somewhat intolerant of intolerance but, even then, we often look to the inner feelings of suffering and fearfulness that have driven the individual to be intolerant in the first place. We seek to understand more than we seek to judge. We are more inclined to accept than to reject. We are inclusive rather than exclusive. All who come to us sincerely are accepted, although some of those are not really meant for us; but still we will do our best to help them find those who are. We don't reject people due to race, creed, politics, place of national origin, gender identity or any other arbitrary manifestation of the world. All who dare to step into our realms are inviting our magics to swirl about them. 

     We are inclined toward artistic pursuits, but we also see science and mathematics as a kind of art and art and creativity as having scientific aspects. We don't value the hard sciences over the arts, but neither do we sacrifice them for the arts. It is balance we seek in nearly all things.

     And magic, especially in the form of enchantment, weaves its way through all that we do and all that we experience. Many people, especially those who embrace with a passion the idea that they are normal are afraid of magic. We elves love it with all our hearts. And despite some peoples' urge to make the world as boring, ugly and mundane as they possibly can, we know that there is something deeper and richer that lives beneath the surface of all seeming. Making the Magic of Faerie Real in One’s Own Life

Living the Personal Myth is written by Zardoa Silverstar of the Silver Elves. It is a unique narrative about a psychological study of the magic of living one’s personal myth, in effect, making one’s dream and vision of one’s self come true by living it. It is a personal guide to becoming one’s true s’elf as one inwardly knows one’s s’elf to be. What makes this book particularly interesting is that Zardoa considers himself to be an elf, yet he uses scientific methods to psychologically examine his identification with the Otherkin world. He explores his personal myth and life as an elf and demonstrates how basing one’s myth on real events in one’s life empowers one’s myth and one’s magic. This work suggests “Personal Myth” to be an understanding of the self that incorporates the symbolic, imaginal and fantasy elements of the unconscious and accepts them as real within their own realms of being. It is the author’s belief that the Personal Myth is the unconscious’ understanding of the individual spirit’s Cosmic aspirations and potentialities. In that way, Personal Myth is seen as the personality of the unconscious and of the individual’s spirit.

Elven Hedgewitchery and Found Magic: Using Art-Making for Evoking Elfin Magic and Living the Elven Way by The Silver Elves is a book of magic — very practical magic that involves the creation of one’s magical tools, which include wands, staffs, rattles, crowns, hoods, robes and many other instruments of magic and, in this case in particular, of elven magic and enchantment. In this book, we share with you many of our favorite magical elven art projects that we have enjoyed doing in the last 40+ years and give you guidance and detailed instructions for creating your own and using them in your magic, along with over 100 photos to demonstrate the art processes. Also, this is a book of elven spells and enchantment magic, with elven rhyming magical spells (200 spells in total written in both English and the magical language of the Silver Elves — Arvyndase, including Arvyndase pronunciation keys) that you may use in rituals to empower your art and magic with each magical item and creative project.
