Who Are the Shining Ones That the Elves Speak Of?

". . . the Shining Ones are soulful spirits that have evolved, as all beings have and are evolving, toward higher manifestation, which is to say awakened and expanded consciousness. All things evolve. Even the rocks and crystals are in the process of becoming ..... The Shining Ones are those who have evolved through lifetimes of experience and effort into the more expansive yet more subtle realms of being."

What most people might call angels, we elves call Shining Ones, except rather than being created as is by some god (as angels are often viewed by Western lore) and are ever the same and unchanging, the Shining Ones are soulful spirits that have evolved, as all beings have and are evolving, toward higher manifestation, which is to say awakened and expanded consciousness. All things evolve. Even the rocks and crystals are in the process of becoming.
We should note that in some stories of the elves, we elven are also seen as beings who were created as is and are unchanging. We Silver Elves reject that idea for several reasons. The first of which is that it simply doesn't accord with our own experience, observations and understanding as occultists of the nature of life.
The second is that the idea of being caught in an eternal bubble of sameness, just doesn't appeal to us. In many ways, we are like children. Thus, while we appreciate those things we love and can read (or in the case of small children have read to us) the same story that we adore over and over again, we always are excited by the new, the different and the surprising.
The third is that we learn. All beings learn or adapt (which is really the same thing) even viruses mutate, so the idea of ever remaining the same doesn't seem viable to us and we like learning, we like improving ours'elves, increasing our skills, abilities, knowledge and powers. So, being stuck in the same job forever of being some god's messengers (angel means messenger) just doesn't suit our natures.
We might note that some faerie lore, particularly some of that which comes from Ireland, holds that we elven are fallen angels (see Evans-Wentz's Fairy Faith in the Celtic Countries) who rebelled against God but were not quite bad enough for hell nor good enough for heaven. While, we once again reject the idea of being unchanging beings, the notion of being fallen angels, in our experience, appeals to a lot of elven and fae, particularly the pixies and the dark fae who love having the "bad boy" and "wild girl" image. As the ancient elven saying we Silver Elves made up goes: "Yes, we are the elves your mother warned you about."
Of course, while we recognize the notion of gods and goddesses, these elves are not worshipers of deities. Rather, we feel and observe that the Divine Magic, the force and power of life, lives in all things as a realizable potentiality that springs into being when each person, each spirit becomes who it truly is, which is coincidentally, who it truly wishes to be. And yet, even in reaching perfection we don't see ours'elves as beings in stasis, but as beings who are ever developing and becoming. There is always more to learn and create. Perfection for the elves is not so much a goal, or an end point, but a continual process.
So, the Shining Ones are those elfin and fae who have evolved through lifetimes of experience and effort into the more expansive yet more subtle realms of being (of course any being may evolve in spirit to become a Shining One). Their bodies are less physical in a sense and yet more manifest. We realize that sounds contradictory but what we mean is that while their bodies tend to be constructed principally with light, starlight in particular, that they exist and manifest not only in the three dimensional world, where we abide, but also in the fourth and other dimensions. In that sense, they are more manifest than we and have a wider range of experience and activity.
Can they manifest here among us? Certainly, they could do so if they choose, although why they would do so is questionable. It would be rather like driving to another city to tell someone to pick up milk, when you could just call or text them. They inspire us through signs and omens.
Surely, there will be those who claim that they are Shining Ones, we have surely encountered some, and while we accept that as an aspiration, for all elves and fae are Shining Ones in potential, we have never met anyone who was quite that evolved. On the other hand, we have met some Living Goddesses and other divine beings, but not a one of them claimed to be so, and while Divine, they were still human beings, like us, struggling with life in this world.
We expect that the Shining Ones, whom some might call the Masters, have their struggles as well on their own level of being. And, in fact, their struggles might be much greater than ours so ours seem like child's play to them, just as graduate school would seem impossible to a child in elementary school, while elementary education would be relatively easy for those in graduate school. But the school that is Life never ends and we elves are happy with that fact as we seek to learn more and be better at all that we do in loving association with all our kin.

While volume one titled Elf Quotes contained all the elf sayings from the first 37 of the Silver Elves' books (all of the side-quotes in their books that were published throughout the years to that date), volume two contains quotes from their four latest books published since the time of the first volume, the daily quotes they publish on Facebook, along with the largest majority of the quotes in this book being shared and published for the first time.

THE ELVES SAY is both an inspiring and enchanting book, and enjoying the many koans, riddles, sayings of the elven eldars, and quotes of ancient knowledge of the elves will surely assist you on your journey to enter the magical realms of Elfin.

Here are a few quotes from THE ELVES SAY:

“The Elves Say: If you need help going higher, lift others up.” (on front cover)

"Elfin is surrounded by a sea of love, encompassed by a sky of near infinite possibility, exists in a forest of mystery and is ground on a tradition that is older than history and nearly as old as time."

"The Elven Golden Rule: Do unto others more intelligently than they have done unto you."

“If you do not find Faerie here, you are unlikely to find it there. But when you start to create it here, it follows you everywhere.”

“We elves are the magic that our ancestors did ages ago.”

“The Sun never sets in Elfin, the Sun never rises; it dances across the sky on its way to the Night’s Revels.”

“The Elves say: Even the Darkness hungers for the light. It may consume it, hide it, dim it, but in the end, it is ultimately transformed by it.”

What’s the Difference Between Elves and Faeries? What Are Fae?

"We could say, tongue in cheek, the difference between elves and faeries is that
'Fairies Fly and Elves Levitate!'"

The following are two excerpts from The Magical Realms of Elfin: Answers to Questions About Being an Elfand Following the Elven Path by The Silver Elves and we are publishing them here particularly for our Fae friends on our Facebook group United Otherkin Alliance and our discussion there on What are the differences between elves and faeries? and What are fae? This is an open group so all interested folk are welcome to join in friendly discussion and sharing:

What are the differences between Elves and Faeries?

While both elves and fairies are fae, we are different tribes, actually a variety of different tribes as there are different types of both elves and of fairies. And this is not even counting the varieties of pixies, brownies and other related kindred. And we are a diversifying people as well, which means that as we evolve into the future, more and more types and tribes of elves and faeries will emerge.
This is similar to the Celtic peoples, who came after us, who were also not one people, but a vast variety of tribes that shared a common culture. The word Keltoi, itself, comes from the Greeks and was not the name those various peoples called themselves but a name given to them by outsiders. And it should be noted that while they shared a culture, they did not all speak the same language. Interestingly, and germane to our topic, Tolkien’s elves also spoke different languages and variations on those languages. In the modern world, of course, elves and faeries, for the most part, are raised within the framework of other ‘normal’ cultures and thus speak the language of their upbringing and sometimes the lingua franca of our times.
We could say, tongue in cheek, the difference between elves and faeries is that “Fairies Fly and Elves Levitate.” Since faerie folk tend to love to wear faerie wings as a symbol of their culture and we elves depend upon our spirits to uplift us. Our own tendency, of course, is not to love faerie wings so much as pointed ears. But then saying, “Fairies fly and Elves listen pointedly” just isn’t as clever, is it?
We have observed that modern faeries, those in human bodies, are often more easily accepted in the world than most of we elven brothers and sisters. Fairies, even though they are considered by others to be “airy” or “flighty” (there is even a term in academic circles of being “airy fairy”), are often really adept in business matters and this enables them to move with greater facility in the world than we elves do. As it is, we elves are frequently more outcast and do not fit as smoothly into the world. And usually we elves do not care to merge into the world if we have to change ours’elves to do it. We prefer the freedom to express ours’elves more than we hunger for acceptance or financial success.
Of course, one might have both elven and faerie within hir, as we are a varied people and combinations of fae being and spirit are more common than not. There are surely those who like to flaunt their pure elven blood, but the reality of the elfin is that we are seldom actually snobbish, tend to be sensually inclined and find all manner of folk beautiful and thus intermingling with others is more likely to occur than not among the elfin. Although, this is probably true of the faerie folk as well and in that way we are rather alike. Some might say we are easy, but it would be more true to say we are easy when we wish to be.
It is important to understand that while the faerie folk make quite a show of being flighty and unreliable at times, this is mostly just a pose. This is a glamour they use to move through the world and they can be just as intent and dedicated to their designs as the elven. While we elven often seem aloof and snobbish, even arrogant to outsiders, we are really quite warm-hearted most of the time, simply, for the most part, a little more inclined toward introversion than the often extroverted faeries, but this is just a generalization and the real difference between elves and faeries is even to be found in the difference between an individual elf and an individual faerie. Generalizations are a convenience but they seldom encompass the whole truth and quite often obscure it. And we elves ever strive to differentiate our preconceptions from reality and to judge each individual as an individual, and in our experience individuals always surprise us.

What Are Fae?

Others may have different definitions but when these elves use the word fae we mean to encompass most of the inhabitants of Faerie. This, of course, includes the faeries themselves, but also pixies, brownies, fee, fey, leprechauns and nearly every other manner of faerie folk, including the Shining Ones, the Tuatha de Danann, the Sidhe in their various forms and many others. Even we elves are fae in our way. And naturally, we include the merfolk, the selkies, the sea sprites, the wood sprites, the sea nymphs, the wood nymphs, the dryads, the centaurs, the satyrs and many other folk, which in that sense would also include Tolkien’s Ents. How about hobbits? Are they fae? We’d think so, but a very brownie like fae, a very homebody sort.
The question is, however, at least for us, do we include some of the denizens of the darker realms of Faerie, the Unseelie folk, the trolls, orcs, goblins, grimlens, giants and others of darker sorts? Honestly, we don’t know. We don’t wish to exclude them, unless they wish to be excluded. We are related to some of them both by blood and marriage from long ages past. They are our kindred even if they are the sort of folks one is sometimes embarrassed to admit that one is related. And remember that certainly not all of the folk of the darker realms are evil, [many modern elfae relate to being Unseelie simply because they do not wish to help mankind, although they do not wish them harm either even though they would protect themselves if necessary]. And while we don’t tend to share the view of humanity as a whole that many of these folk have, nor their propensity to prey on others, as is the case with some of them, nor even with their religious, social or political views, nor their views on gender and the place of women in society, nor their prejudices concerning other races, we are willing to share a family meal with them in elfin frasority and kindreth. We are cousins, after all, even if it is just kissing cousins, and we are surely not inclined to kiss them in most cases.
And that’s the point really, we never exclude anyone who wishes to be a part of Faerie and makes the effort to attune to that vast and wondrous realm. We surely could not exclude them from Faerie itself, but neither would we exclude them from our own hearts and understanding of Faerie. Only those who do not wish to acknowledge Faerie are excluded from it. But really, when it comes down to it, each must decide for hir own s’elf whether sHe is of the fae or not.
If some goblin, for instance, came up to us and said, sHe was not fae, we’d accept that as fact. On the other hand, if another goblin came up to us and stated that sHe was fae, we’d accept that as well, thinking then that we had encountered two different types of goblin, the fae and unfae. This, alas, has never happened, but still it is possible.
We don’t present our definitions as absolutes, merely as indications of how we are using a particular word, phrase or term. We believe it the right of every person and every people to define they own s’elves or selves, but it is also their obligation in doing so to live up to those definitions as best they are able. Calling ones’elf an elf, doesn’t make one elven, but living one’s life as an elf, does. At least, this is true in the realms of magic and Elfin and Faerie, and they are in the long run the only realms that really matter to us.

We also, we invite you to check out our new release:
ELVEN PSYCHOLOGY:Understanding the Elfin Psyche and the Evolutionary and Esoteric Purpose ofMental Disorders! Come read all about it, the introduction, and table of contents on the link below: Readers idea of normal will be forever changed!

ELVEN PSYCHOLOGY is written from a unique elven perspective about the present day human condition, which includes an exploration of the psyché of both normal folk and elfae. We elves are elven by spirit, so our entrance into humanity is the addition of a new spiritual race, not a new physical race, and elves have been born in these modern times into all physical races, as well as most cultures and religions throughout the world. In fact, there are many who are following esoteric Ancient Wisdom Traditions, as well as some Tolkienists, who through the process of benevolent evolution, see ‘elf as the new normal’ or majority of humankind in the not so distant future. So, it is important to update many areas of academia that explore, express, and explain human life; psychology being one of these.

Thus this book expands the realms of modern psychology, which has never before included the elves and otherkin population as being real. If one says that they are an elf, most psychologists today will still hold you in suspect of having a delusionary disorder and try to evaluate you further. We explain in Elven Psychology why from a standard psychological point of view that believing you are an elf does not in itself constitute a disorder even in traditional psychology, and then we go much further and explore the disorders and psychological struggles that we observe in our modern society in both normal folk and elves/otherkin, along with the spiritual purposes of disorders and new perspectives for healing.

"Now we muse upon the days, when morning mist did turn to haze and through the haze the folk did come to dance and sing and beat the drum, and round and round we circled 'bout, and sometimes yelled out with a shout, our spirits strong our hearts were stout, and darkness we did soon give rout, as then the light of Elfin rose, we reached to it upon our toes, and grasped it close as magic knows, this is the way we bring it, as usual we wing it, join us now and sing it, it is the song of Faerie."
—The Silver Elves

If you are further interested in our magic philosophy and rituals, we suggest that you visit our website and read sample pages and the table of contents of our two volumes (also both available on Amazon) of The Book of Elven Magick: The Philosophy and Enchantments of the Seelie Elves (volume 1) and here you will find volume 2. In these two books we explore the Elven viewpoint concerning magick and the tools of magic with magical ceremonies that may be adapted for use by modern faerie folk. The two volumes give the complete progression of color magicks and also explore Elven Vortexes and Covens, as well as our theories on calling the directions and dimensions and more.

"This book, dear kin, and the others we have written are the magic signs we’ve left for those searching for Elfin/Faerie in and beyond the world. We bless you and grant your true wishes." —From the Book of Elven Magick, volume 2

The Ten Stages, or Colors of Elven Ritual Magic below is taken from the The Book of Elven Magick: Vols 1 and 2, by The Silver Elves. We would like to thank Ileådryn, Sara Isayama, for her beautiful graphic design.
MagicStagesSilverElves
We Silver Elves created this Color Magic system as something fluid and individual. You start with what Color Magic you feel you are drawn to. If you don't have a preference and are a person who likes things set in order, then start with One. If you are a person who likes to go more by your feelings, then choose first the one you are attracted to and feel you meed in your life. It is said that if you like to look at this in terms of order, one might think of the color sequence above as being akin to something like Maslow's Heirarchy of Needs, only applied to magic and ritual. For instance, it's hard to do Healing Green Magic, if one is under psychic attack and therefore one must first defend oneself and place barriers and be in a secure, safe place before one can do any healing. That is why, for example, Black Magic or Protection Magic is placed before Healing Green Magic. Also, "Health" is a perhaps the greatest wealth, which is why Healing Magic comes before Orange Magic for wealth generation, and so forth. But remember that we often are working on more than one magic at a time in our lives just as we have more than one need at a time that needs fulfilling. So while you certainly may go in an order 1 to 10, what you need is truly your decision and you may need to do more than one at a time. We don't actually have charts or graphs in our books, most likely because the Elven Way is so fluid. To read more on elven color magic and ritual see: The Book of Elven Magick: The Philosophy and Enchantments of the Seelie Elves, volume 1 and also The Book of Elven Magick: The Philosophy and Enchantments of the Seelie Elves, Volume 2.

How Does it Feel to Write from the Perspective of Elves?

". . . it feels wonderful . . . . most of what we write about elves isn't something we've made up, as some folks seem to think, but something we've noted by watching our kindred, particularly those who are truly attuned to Nature and their own nature. In that way one might say that we are elven sociologists and anthropologists."

Someone recently asked us how it feels to write from the perspective of elves and the short answer is, of course, it feels wonderful. But we might also say that it feels natural because, after all, we are elves. What other perspective could we write from? We suppose we could pretend to be normal folk and write from that perspective, but honestly we've never quite understood normal folk and while we have tried to pass among them for harmony's sake, as well as to avoid much of the prejudice that they direct, both intentionally and unintentionally, toward us, we've never been very good at pretending to be normal. Faeries, on the other hand, seem very proficient at fitting into normal society by appearing to be "away with the faeries," a bit flighty, and by taking on the persona of the stereotypical dumb and nutty blond. In fact, they probably invented that stereotype as camouflage.
We love everything about elven culture. We love being elves. We love other elves and elf types, faeries, pixies, gnomes, dwarves, brownies and all of fae kind. We even look at orcs and goblins and grimlins and think if they weren't so aggressive and hostile, we could get along with them. And we might not appreciate their country or whatever is there own music as much as they do, but if you can dance to it, we'd dance, and we do find them to be quite lovely and fascinating in their special way. The way one might, say, love Frankenstein's 'monster'. And when they accept you as one of their own, they can be quite loving, too, or at least friendly. The ladies more than the gents, if you can call orcs ladies and gents. Those are not terms, in our experience that they typically easy to relate to.
One might ask: how do we write from the perspective of elves? But the answer is that due to the fact that we are elves, it is quite easy. And while elves are a diverse folk even if you look just at our s'elves and you don't include pixies and all other elfae, there are so many elves and so many points of view, much of it unfortunately influenced from being raised in the normal world where prejudice and preconceptions are normal and accepted behavior, that whenever we question what it means to be elven, we just observe our other elves. In fact, most of what we write about elves isn't something we've made up, as some folks seem to think, but something we've noted by watching our kindred, particularly those who are truly attuned to Nature and their own nature. In that way one might say that we are elven sociologists and anthropologists.
While many folks seem to be limited by what they have read in traditional faerie tales and lore, and others seem totally restricted by this or that piece of fiction about elves that has inspired them, our perspective comes almost totally from our own lives and the lives of the kindred we observe manifesting in the world. It is not that we don't heed the traditional tales, or that we don't love modern fiction about our people, we are aware of and inspired by both, but the reality of what we see and the potential that we know exists within that reality, informs those tales and stories with the living vibration of Elfin and it is ever this that guides us.

What about the Silver Elves Books and Cultural Appropriation?

We recently had an individual write to us on Facebook and accused our books, among other things, of being a mish-mash of cultural appropriation. However, before we could reply to his comment he apparently realized he had contradicted himself in his long rant and he deleted his own comments. But, we’d like to reply to them anyway because although we think his observations are opinions really since he hadn’t actually read our books nor knew us personally in any way (including our cultural background), they are accusations worth considering.

As to the idea that our books are a mish mash that is surely true. We take everything we encounter, from every culture we encounter and filter it through the lens of our elf sight. We look at the world at large much in that way that we view Elfin, that it is one place with many unique people, individuals and cultures but that these things and beings are not really separate but instead merely variations of the one, rather like a huge box of crayons. We elves wish to use all the crayons available when we color our world, not just a few. And when people tell us we can only use the blue or green but not the red or yellow or other varieties, then we look at them as though they are crazy, which they are.

We once had a friend come visit us, who was really quite impressive. She was Jewish and had escaped the Nazis in Germany and saved herself and her children by fleeing to the Dominican Republic (since it was the only country in the world that would accept her). She was an old witch and went to a Covenant of the Goddess convention with us. One day, during her visit, as we were driving along in our car she saw our, at the time, three year old daughter coloring a drawing of an apple and she was making it purple. Our witch friend told us that we needed to compel her to color it red in order to teach her that apples are usually red and we just laughed at her and told her it was our daughter’s imagination at work and she could color it any color she desired, as far as we were concerned. We had no doubt that she would in the future learn the colors apples tend to come in. Elves are not fond of having our imaginations limited, even by what some folks perceive of as reality.

We’ve written about cultural appropriation in a couple of our books but let us say that as elves and thus being of the oldest folk, according to much lore and legend, and being the hidden folk of nearly every people in the world, we feel we have the right to observe any culture we choose, since they all originally came from elves in one way or another or replaced us in our lands. So we take what they offer and view it from an elven perspective as well as transform it, hopefully making it better by doing so, and in a sense ‘elfinizing’ it. We actually believe everyone has that right.

What we don’t believe in is taking something and making something wicked out of it. We don’t mind that the faeries took our seven pointed elven star and call it the faerie star, since they are doing this in a loving and positive way. It would be nice if they knew where they got it from, but alas, forgetfulness is the way of the world. However, when the Nazis took the wonderful Hindu symbol of the swastika and used it to promote their wicked agenda, that we object to. Now whenever most people in the world see the swastika they think of Nazis and skinheads and hate and prejudice, instead of the spiral galaxy and spiritual energy it truly represents.

We once knew a woman of Hispanic heritage who was married to a gentleman of Asian lineage, and she was the high priestess of a Celtic witchcraft coven she had founded. Now, those who are against cultural appropriation would say that she should have a coven based upon Hispanic or Spanish magic but her spirit and soul drew her to Celtic witchcraft. From an elven point of view, this woman, despite her currently genetic heritage had been a Celt in a previous lifetime and still carried that spirit within her and had every right, to our minds, to have whatever type of coven her heart and imagination, her soul and her spirit, drew her toward.

For these elves, all magic is one. It may manifest in a variety of ways and traditions around the world, but at its heart it is one magic and all magic stems from it and all magic wielders have the right to study magic in all of its forms. Saying that we can only write about magic from the culture that we are genetically descended from is ridiculous as far as these elves are concerned. That would be like saying that Western doctors can only study or do Western style medicine and Chinese doctors can only do ancient Chinese medicine and this is just patently ludicrous. Medicine does not belong to one people or culture, it belongs to all people and so does magic.

“Elves view criticism as only being valid when it promotes creativity.
Otherwise, they say it is no more significant than spitting into a blazing fire.”

Most of our books are nonfiction books about the Elven Path, but we do have one elven novel,  The Elves of Lyndarys: A Magical Tale of Modern Faerie Folk  that we think you will enjoy quite a bit and it is written from our observations of our fae friends and family:

THE ELVES OF LYNDARYS is an often humorous novel about a young man’s struggle to mature and develop himself, his magic and his identity as he encounters and explores the modern pagan and otherkin communities and happens to encounter real elves, slowly coming to realize as he does so that he may not be a man at all but one of the elven. He is confronted through his journey not only by his own incredulity about his encounters and his inner conflict with what he has been taught to believe is reality and his actual experience but also by his personal prejudices and false assumptions. He comes to discover not only that the magic of Faerie is real but further that the Elven Way, as presented by his mentors, offers him a means of traveling the misty paths to magical and mystical enlightenment.
