How Do You Create the Elf Names You Gift to Others? Does Knowing a Person’s True Name Really Give You Power Over Them?

".... the name we gift is one’s true name, it is a sort of code name, one’s undercover name, one’s elfin secret agent name. It is a sort of passport that admits one entry into the Elfin realms and when one uses it, magic stirs."

If you are interested in having us gift you an elven name in Arvyndase, you are welcome to visit our website and click on the top tab that says "Want An Elf Name." There we give you suggestions for what to email us about yours'elf so we can give you a name that is magically fitting for you.

How we Silver Elves Create the Elf Names We Gift to Others

Unlike so many others, the elf names we create come to us intuitively. We don’t have a formula for creating the names, like those programs that take your world name and transform it or ask you to go by the birthday or month or the first letter of your first and last name and then have couple of name parts you can put together.
We have been giving magical names for years. Even before we realized we are elves, before we awakened we were giving our friends magical names. It came to us automatically and naturally, rather than something we decided to do, which is usually a sign that it is a practice and ability that we developed in previous lifetimes. We’ve been name givers for many, many lifetimes.
Our process, as we said, is primarily intuitive. We read what the individual has written to us about hir (his/her) elfin nature and life and we go over sounds in our minds that feel right to us until we find a name that suits them. Usually, the meaning comes from the person hir own s’elf. What the individual tells us determines the meaning of hir name. But no two elf names are the same either in the name itself or its meaning but, of course, they are sometimes similar or related by meaning or sound.
We endeavor to make every name we give a name that will suit the individuals to whom we gift them, but we also seek to give them a name that will in some way encourage them and help them. Alas, we know we are not always successful in doing this. Or at least we know that most individuals never use the name we gift them. However, if they do so, it has a power of magic within it that can guide them deeper into Elfin, closer to their own true natures and aid them to discover secrets of Elfin magic that are only revealed in one's dreams.
Of course, some folks like to keep their names secret. They have heard about the power of names and use these names we have given them only in their magic workings and only among those they trust. This we surely understand, but as we explain to people when we give these names, the name we gift is one’s true name, it is a sort of code name, one’s undercover name, one’s elfin secret agent name. It is a sort of passport that admits one entry into the Elfin realms and when one uses it, magic stirs.

Does knowing a person’s true name really give you power over hir (him/her)?
This is an old idea but it is more of a metaphor than a direct practical reality. There is no one name that you may have that when known will grant someone power over you, making you into a sort of robot (or into their “bitch” as they so crudely and ignorantly put it). It is true that among the Elf Queen’s Daughters we each had a secret name, called the Ba Ka name that only the other sisters of the inner sisterhood knew but even if others had known the name it wouldn’t have granted them any power over us (or made any sense to them, either). The efficacy of this name was in its power to unite us in the sisterhood and make us feel special together. It was an introduction into the inner sisterhood.

If you really wish to speak of a person’s true name, then you are actually speaking of the vibration that the individual’s body makes, a sort of tone that radiates into the Universe, but even if one could pronounce such a name, while it would allow one to attune to that individual, it still wouldn’t give one total power over them (you can’t use those Jedi Mind tricks on us).

However, as we said, the true name is a metaphor for understanding the psyche of another individual. If you really understand someone, what sHe (she/he) wants and desires, what motivates hir (him/her), how hir mind works then yes, you can have great power over that individual and manipulate the individual to do many things, in fact, nearly anything (see I Ching hexagram number 61 or our book The Elven Book of Changes: A Magical Interpretation of the I Ching). This is the true meaning of the true name. This is the idea that is expressed in movies and books when someone’s children or other loved one is kidnapped and they are told to do this and that or the loved one will die. The individual’s true name in this instance is hir love for hir family.

The question we elves ask, however, is why is this power always used for ill? Why is it always, it seems, or mostly used by the wicked? If you know a person’s true name, which is to say, if you really understand someone to the point where you can manipulate that individual to whatever you wish, why not use it to further the individual in the good? To set the individual to do great things? Furthering hir own s’elf and hir others?

This use of the true name is rarely seen in movies and books, although it is not entirely absent. The movie Cold Comfort Farm, starring Kate Beckinsale, and the book it is based upon, show an individual doing just this thing, understanding others and setting them toward their true s’elves and fulfillment. In the movie and book, this individual isn’t called an elf, and it isn’t on the surface a tale about elves, but for the elven it is clearly a magical tale of elfin magic, but then we elves tend to see things that others often don’t. We see Elfin and magic where others see but the same old world in the same old way.

THE BOOK OF ELF NAMES:
5,600 Elven Names to use for Magic, Game Playing, Inspiration, Naming One's Self and One's Child, and as Words in the Elven Language of the Silver Elves

For decades the Silver Elves have been gifting magical elf names to those needing a bit of encouragement in their awakening sense of their elven or other natures. We've also received request for elf names from game players, writers, people wishing to name their babies and many more. In "The Book of Elf Names: 5,600 Elven Names to use for Magic, Game Playing, Inspiration, Naming One's Self and One's Child, and as Words in the Elven Language of the Silver Elves", we present these elf names (along with their pronunciation and English translation) as inspiration for those who wish to create their own elven names, although we still gift names and those desiring one from us can read about requesting one here.
Also, we welcome you to come join us on Facebook under Zardoa's birth name Michael J. Love (Zardoa of The SilverElves) and Martha Char Love (SilverFlame of The SilverElves).
